L-citrulline is an amino acid that occurs naturally in watermelon and plays an important role in kidney function. It has become a popular ingredient in pre-workouts due to its ability to increase nitric oxide levels. When nitric oxide production increases, blood flow improves, allowing nutrients and oxygen to replenish muscle tissue more efficiently. Ultimately, this translates into greater muscle pumps and increased energy levels.
Numerous studies have shown the effects of L-citrulline malate, such as:
